1928 Officine Meccaniche Supercharged Tourer

The Officine Meccaniche (O.M.) company was founded in 1918 and remained in business until 1938 when they were taken over by Fiat. In the mid to late 1920’s Officine Meccaniche (O.M.) vehicles were very successful in competitions, especially in long-distance international car racing such as the Tripoli Grand Prix, the 24 Hours of LeMans Endurance Race, the Rudge-Whitworth Cup and the Mille Miglia.

This 1928 O.M. Tourer features a supercharged two-liter L-head inline six cylinder engine, many aluminum castings in the chassis's fabrication and leather over wood body. The history of this example includes a full restored at least once and has participated in many sporting and concourse events throughout the world such as the Argentinean Millas Sport and was on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Motoring Festival.

It was brought to Jellybean AutoCrafters for reliability issues in preparation for the 2013 running of the Mille Miglia Auto Race in Italy. Our scope of work included rebuilding the supercharger, converting it to sealed bearings and adding a blow-off valve. We built 2 sight glasses (oil level checking windows) & 2 oiling caps for the supercharger. We rebuilt the carburetors and created a new throttle linkage that is easier to operate. Designing & fabricating new mirror stanchions for both sides, converting the mirror to a modern convex reflector yet keeping the original look made it more comfortable to compete with and installing a dropped floor for the driver makes it easier to operate the pedals.

We are proud an honoured to participate in the history of this wonderful automobile and trust it will see more races and shows in the future.
